Miller's crew at work in New Palestine
The Miller's Standard

We climb them. We respect them.

Miller's started with one bucket truck, one chipper, and one rule: nothing leaves this property broken except the tree we came for. the owner still walks most estimates personally — because the person quoting the job should be the person who has to figure out how to get it on the ground.

We're a small, certified crew serving the New Palestine metro. We carry $2 million in liability and full workers' comp, and we hand you the certificate before we hand you a saw quote. We don't top trees, we don't spike a tree we're not removing, and we don't leave a yard we wouldn't let our own kids run barefoot across. If that costs us a job to the guy in the pickup with no insurance — fine. He's not the one you want in your oak.

Our Services

Everything a tree needs — including knowing when to leave it alone.

Four things, done properly. We'd rather prune a tree you can keep than sell you a removal you'll regret in ten years when the shade is gone.

Tree Removal
01 · Removal

Tree Removal

Hazard trees, dead trees, trees three feet from your foundation. We section from the top down, rig the heavy wood over ropes, and lower it piece by piece — so nothing lands that we didn't put there. Crane and bucket access for the tight ones.

  • On-site hazard assessment by a certified arborist
  • Climb or bucket/crane removal, sectioned and rigged
  • Wood cut and hauled — or left bucked if you burn
  • Chips blown clean from beds, lawn, and drive
  • Stump grinding available same visit

Trimming & Pruning
02 · Pruning

Trimming & Pruning

Crown thinning, deadwooding, canopy raising, and clearance from your roof and power drop — all with proper cuts at the branch collar. We never top, never leave stubs, and never take more than 25% of a live canopy in a season.

  • Structural pruning for young trees
  • Deadwood removal on mature hardwoods
  • Crown raise for clearance over roof, drive, and walk
  • Storm-proofing: weak unions and over-extended limbs
  • Brush chipped and hauled the same day

Stump Grinding
03 · Stumps

Stump Grinding

A ground stump is the difference between a finished job and a yard with a scar in it. We grind 6–12" below grade — deep enough to plant grass, lay sod, or set a patio right over it. Surface roots ground out too, if they're in the way.

  • Utility locate before the grinder touches dirt
  • Grind 6–12 inches below grade
  • Surface roots ground flush where needed
  • Chips backfilled and tamped — or hauled off, your call
  • Topsoil and seed on request

Every Miller's job runs the same way, whether it's one limb or a stand of dead ash.

1

Free On-Site Estimate

A certified arborist walks the tree, checks access, hazards, and what's underneath it — then hands you a written, itemized quote. No pressure, and no charge if you say no.

2

Insurance & Plan

You get our certificate of insurance before we schedule. We tell you exactly how the tree is coming down, where the drop zone is, and what we'll need moved off the lawn.

3

Controlled Removal

Ropes rigged, drop zone roped off, pieces lowered — not dropped. Crane or bucket where access is tight. Lawn mats where the equipment has to run.

4

Grind & Walk-Through

Stump ground below grade, chips handled your way, everything blown clean. Then we walk the whole property with you before the trucks pull out.

How much does tree removal cost?
For most homes, removal runs $400–$2,500 depending on size, lean, and access. A small backyard tree with a clear drop zone lands near the bottom; a large hazardous removal over a house — crane, rigging, power lines — runs $3,000–$8,000 and up. Trimming and pruning typically runs $300–$900. Stump grinding runs $100–$400 per stump. Every quote we give is written, itemized, and free.
Are you insured — and how do I actually check?
Yes: $2 million general liability plus full workers' comp, and we email you the certificate before we schedule. Here's the honest advice — ask every tree company you call for their certificate of insurance, and ask for it in writing, from the carrier. If they hesitate, get vague, or say they'll 'bring it with them,' walk away. If an uninsured crew drops a limb through your roof or gets hurt in your tree, that becomes your homeowner's claim and your liability.
Do you take the wood, and what about the chips?
Your call, and it's free either way. We'll haul all of it off, or we'll buck the trunk into rounds and stack it if you burn firewood. Chips can go back into your beds, get left in a pile, or leave with us. Just tell us at the estimate so we bring the right truck.
How fast can you get here in an emergency?
We run 24/7 storm response and typically have a crew on site within a couple of hours — often faster. After a big storm we triage by hazard, so a tree on a house or a live line jumps the queue ahead of a limb in the driveway. Call (317) 650-3453; a real person answers, not a machine.
Will your equipment tear up my lawn?
Not if we do our job. We lay plywood or track mats anywhere heavy equipment has to cross soft ground, and we plan the approach at the estimate. On genuinely tight or wet lots we'll climb and rope it out rather than drive on your yard. If we do leave a rut, we fix it — rake it, topsoil it, and seed it before we leave.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree?
On private property in most of the New Palestine area, usually no — but it depends on your municipality, whether the tree is in the right-of-way or a tree-preservation zone, and your HOA. Street trees between the sidewalk and the curb are often the city's, not yours. We check it for you before we quote, and we pull the permit and handle traffic control if one's required.
